Make your child eat healthy

Making your child eat and, eat healthy, at most times, seems like an unenviable chore. And nutrition for your child, whether a toddler, a tween or a teenager, is something you need to give much importance to.

Nutritionist Dr Sunita Dube says that parents can instill healthy eating habits in their kids, without turning meal times into a battle zone. “By encouraging healthy eating habits now, you can make a huge impact on your child’s lifelong relationship with food. Good nutrition begins in infancy. Healthy eating can stabilise children’s energy, sharpen their minds, and even out their moods. Unfortunately, kids are bombarded by messages that can counteract your efforts.

Between peer pressure and constant commercials for junk foods, getting children to eat well might seem more futile than fruitful.”

According to clinical nutritionist Dr Nupur Krishnan, a child needs a balanced and adequate diet to supply nutrients and energy needed for growth. Although children’s food consumption is highly variable from meal to meal, their daily energy consumption is relatively constant because they adjust it at meals.

– A child requires more calories per kilogram body weight than an adult because metabolism is highest during infancy, and steadily declines throughout life except for a small rise during adolescence.

– The physical activity of the child far exceeds that of an adult.

“A child requires more protein than an adult not only for tissue repair but also for growth. About 14 to 15 per cent of calories should be protein. The main sources of protein are milk and milk products (curd, paneer, lassi, shrikhand), meat, fish, eggs, nuts, cereals and pulses. The amount of food a child needs varies according to height, build, gender and activity levels. Most children usually eat the amount of food that’s right for them, however, it is up to parents to make sure their children have the right food available to choose from,” says Dr Krishnan.

Nutrition in teens
Dietician and nutritionist Vaishali Marathe says that adolescence is accompanied with accelerated physical, biochemical and emotional development. “In this growth spurt time, kids gain about 20 per cent of adult height and 50 per cent of adult weight. Since growth is so rapid, requirements for all nutrients increase. There are increased demands for energy, proteins, minerals and vitamins,” she says.

Tips To Decide On The Appropriate Childrens Clothes

Shopping for childrens clothes can be fun but at the same time time-consuming because of the availability of many types of options in the stores. The other fact is that children grow up very fast making it more difficult to find the most appropriate clothing for them. The following tips will act as a guideline to the parents and guardians when it comes to selecting various types of clothing for their kids.

Because the kids play a lot it is important that when selecting everyday clothes, the buyers should select clothes that can be easily worn. They should come with the right type of structure to make it easy to put on or remove as desired. The buyers should also ensure that they stay away from those clothes that stick to the body as this will make it hard to wear and at the same time limit the freedom of the child when they are playing.

The other important thing is to determine the comfort of the child. This means that the consumers should ensure that the type of fabric that makes the child very comfortable. There are various types of fabrics from lace to satin but not all of them are safe for the young ones and therefore the consumers are advised to opt for the soft cottons that are recommended for summer because of their comfort. They are also advised to select fleece or woolen for winter to keep the child not only comfortable but also warm. To ensure safety, it is recommended that the buyers opt for those that have zippers and not buttons when it comes to buying infants or toddlers clothes. Kids usually swallow the buttons and this has a lot of consequences. They are also asked to avoid the ones that are designed with ties as they increase the risks of strangling.

The size of the children clothing is also very important. Choosing larger clothes will increases the chances of the child tripping over them thus causing accidents. Selecting those that are smaller will only work to restrict the childs activities as well as interfere with their breathing- something that is not healthy. The advantage is that many stores have wide variety of clothing sizes for the kids and the buyers will have an easier time in choosing them. The other option is to go to the stores with the child and make him or her try as many clothes as possible in order to find the right one for them.

The increasing number of manufacturers and stores for children clothing has cause a wide range of prices for them. This provides many buyers a chance to select the ones that are within their budgets. The users have the option of selecting brick and mortar stores or online stores for all their shopping needs as they will get assorted clothes at different price tags. They can compare a variety order to find the ones that fit their budget

Childless People Who Know Everything…a Parent’s Worst Nightmare!

To be a parent is in many ways to belong to a unique club. Only once you’ve experienced the joys, hardships and sheer exhaustion, are you allowed to make the odd helpful comment to those that are coming up behind you. Now we all know there are some individuals out there whose comments are anything but helpful. Those types who glare at us in the grocery store when our youngest has decided to flip out over our choice of cereal. No, it doesn’t matter how you handle it, there’s always someone who thinks that they could have done it better than you. But let’s face it, the criticism parents face comes from many different areas of society and none irritates me more than hearing from the childless. Perhaps you’ve heard of that wonderful quote “I was a much better parent before I had children.” (Anonymous)

Yes, they know it all and we all have them, sisters, cousins, friends and they all know how to parent better than you. It’s enough to make you want to give them a wonderful dose of reality, a weekend with your kids when everybody’s sick and the washer has broken down…again. The kind of parental realism that’ll leave them tired, fed up and thoroughly penitent. In a perfect world, perhaps but how to deal with their comments in the meantime? Should one tactfully remind them that parenting is a 365 day a year job? That there are no days off and no sick days that you can crawl gratefully in to bed, whilst someone else keeps your three year old occupied with a simulating craft.

Parenting is, to use the words of Charles Dickens “the best of times and the worst of times.” It’s a roller coaster ride from beginning to end. It is a continuing adventure that for me, has been a privilege to have undertaken. Where else can you have such an enormous impact on the life of another? In what other endeavor can you learn so much about yourself? It’s like attempting the summit of K2 in a pair of runners and a windbreaker, surviving the inevitable storms and coming home battered but oh, so much better off for the journey.

So next time you get some tactless individual gracing you with their parental wisdom or lack of it, just smile, content in the knowledge they have not been where you have been. Nor have they been graced with such a monumental opportunity to experience life in all it’s shades. And remember, think yourself lucky because you are.

Keep Safe with Kids Electric Scooters

Kids electric scooters are a great way for your kids to have fun, keep active and gain a little bit of that all important independence.

Although they dont travel at breakneck speed, most parents know that their children perhaps dont always think of safety first. Thats why if youre thinking of purchasing a kids electric scooter for your child you need to ensure that they will be safe in the event of the inevitable odd fall, scrape or tumble.

Firstly you need to make sure that if your children are going to be out on the pavements where there is traffic that they have a very good understanding of road safety. Make sure that they know how to stop, look and listen and explain to them just how dangerous it could be to be out on the road.

Your children should also be aware of pedestrians when using a kids electric scooter. Other pavement users can get very irritated by kids electric scooters whizzing past them. In addition if children arent careful about looking where they are going and controlling their speed that can end up having a collision. Unfortunately its vulnerable people such as the elderly and young children that are most likely to be affected and to get involved in a collision. So make sure that your kids are considerate and keep the needs of pedestrians in mind.

When your children use kids electric scooters they should always wear protective clothing. Most importantly this should include a helmet. Its advisable to buy the helmet from a reputable store as then you can be sure that it will have undergone all the appropriate safety checks and be fit for purpose. However if you are not sure then simply look for the CE mark which guarantees that the helmet has been certified as safe for sale in the EU.

Your child should also wear protective wrist and knee guards to protect hands, wrists and knees. These are essential as in the event of a fall hands, wrists knees, head and face are the most likely areas of the body to be injured.

Although you may find your child complaining about having to wear protective apparel you should ensure they definitely wear it otherwise they could find themselves with a serious injury.

Lastly you need to ensure that your child wears appropriate footwear when riding kids electric scooters. In the summer particularly many children wear sandals or flip flops but these can be quite hazardous and can impede their ability to ride a scooter safely. The best footwear to choose is trainers.

Have Questions about a Child Support Issue

After a child custody arrangement has been made, many parents may find themselves responsible for paying or collecting child support. Austin Texas has many policies that control calculation and payment. The concept and purpose of child support may seem straightforward, but it can be a fairly complicated legal issue. If you haven’t already, it’s highly recommended that you seek the advice of a lawyer before you comply with any monetary agreement. Without a buffer zone between you and the opposition, you may lose a large amount of what you should legally collect or be forced to pay more than necessary.

How It’s Calculated

Generally, child support is calculated based on the net income of the noncustodial parent, or the parent who is not currently responsible for physically caring for the child. The amount to be paid to the custodial parent is dependent on not only income, but the number of children the paying parent is accountable for. Usually, the amount deducted from the noncustodial parent’s net income begins at 20% for one child, and increases by 5% for every other child respectively. The parent responsible for support payments must pay until their child or children turn 18 years old, even if they’re being denied visitation rights. The penalties for not making payments can be severe, and sometimes result in fines or prison time.

Help for Custodial Parents

The advice of a lawyer is not only helpful in determining how much support you’ll pay or collect, but is also beneficial if the paying parent isn’t fulfilling their duties. If you’re a custodial parent and are no longer receiving payments every month, it’s in yours and your child’s best interest to speak with an attorney. Failure to make support payments is a serious matter, and shouldn’t be taken lightly. For many parents, monthly support payments are absolutely essential. To resolve the matter, a family law attorney will help you file a court order and represent your case at the scheduled hearing.

Guidelines For Pencil Portrait Drawing – Sketching Kids

The drawing of kids demands freshness and directness of purpose. Unfortunately, there are not too many quick and ready rules. Let us just say that kids’ portraits demand a sharp and patient eye.

For those who intend to do commercial portraiture the good news is that kids’ portraits can be rewarding. There are very few draftspersons who can competently render kids.

Soft lighting works best for portraits of kids. The child could be looking toward a intense light source. This sort of light source will illuminate the child’s face and create an introspective facial appearance. The tone range goes from light to medium with the eyes really dark.

Addressing the facial proportions of kids in a general sense is somewhat of a waste of time. Their facial proportions change dramatically within a time span of six month.

Suffice it to say that the younger the child is the smaller the face in relation to the skull. The eyes also appear larger although this can be deceiving. A child’s nose can be very difficult to render – there is nothing really to latch onto. And the mouth is very about the width of an eye. Again, we must stress that these proportions are only a broad rule and individual face proportions can be different. The above broad rules can be made use of for comparison purposes when you do your own careful observations of a particular face.

As always, start your rendering by striking the arabesque and then correcting the height/width proportions as necessary.

After establishing the primary facial proportions (i.e., the brow, nose, mouth, etc.) block-in the major light/dark patterns. Then, stump down the graphite using your fingers or a stump. To render and re-shape the lights employ a clean putty eraser.

Now the features are carefully placed, measured and partially rendered. There are two things to remember here:

1. Your pencils must be real sharp, and

2. At this stage, you should never fully complete a feature. Render each feature no more than 50%.

As soon as the features are sized and placed as best you can, you can now further develop them. Do not neglect the hair and sides of the face. Everything should be advanced together. As you continue to render you should always be on the lookout for mistakes in proportions and tone.

In closing, the fundamental procedures made use of to render a child’s portrait are of course always the same. Above, we listed most of the differences in size and shape between an adult skull and that of a child. Your frame of mind when drawing a child should be one that reflects the innocence and the softness of a child.

Tennis Psychology And Tennis Parents Do You Expect Miracles

Do you expect your tennis kid to always perform well or win? Do you have a hard time focusing on what your kids do well on the court instead of focusing on mistakes? I receive many questions from sports parents about their young athletes performance. One question parents ask me: Am I too hard on my young athlete? Yes, most parents are.

Just today, I received an email from a sports parent about his child. He stated, I am sometimes hard on my son and tend to see his weaknesses more then his positive qualities! As a tennis parent myself, I have to agree. I find myself focusing more on the mistakes my child makes in matches instead of the wonderful shots she makes.

I think one reason many tennis parents focus on mistakes and weaknesses is that they know what their kids are capable of in practice and matches. For example, one week your child might play flawlessly winning every match in the tournament. Naturally, our expectations as parents shoot up: My child should be able to perform like this all the time!

I call this the peak performance dilemma. Some athletes judge every performance based on their best performance! They think, If I can play great one time, I should do it all the time. I think tennis parents adopt this same attitude. When our kids dont perform up to their potential, its easier to focus on the mistakes and what they are doing wrong (compared to their best performances).

Whats the solution to this dilemma? First, you want to be careful not to compare every match your athlete plays to his best match. Second, you have force yourself to focus on what your child is doing well in each match, especially after the match on the car ride home. Dont pick apart every mistake your young athlete made in the last match. I suggest to parents that you compliment your player for one or two things she might have done well in the match, before saying anything else.

When you think your child under-performed during a match, giving complements is very hard to do (trust me I know this personally). Try to focus on your players positive qualities. Your kids know what mistakes they made and dont want to be reminded after the match!

The Missing Parent

I have four sons and a daughter. As my sons were growing up, they all did different adventures and trips with my husband. As adults the boys did an annual fishing trip with him and the fish stories began to grow like the hair on my sons’ faces! My boys will never forget those Dad times, especially since he passed away a few years ago.

The hard part about being the parent who is left is that those kinds of outings are hard to do with grown sons. It’s not like I’m the Dad figure who hunts and fishes and fixes car engines with them. I’m the Mom. I’m the cook or the comforter and all those other things Moms sometimes do.

When my sons start talking about their hunting expeditions or how they caught fish up in Canada or some other “manly” activity, I zone out! I start to think of things I want to paint or knit or sew. I don’t want to hear about where the deer got shot and how long they followed the blood trail. Ew! It’s like listening to what they did to the neighbor’s cat when they were little boys! (Believe me, you don’t want to know.)

So what’s a mom to do? Do I become a gun-toting hunter? Do I learn how to gut a deer or a fish without losing my cookies? Do I start wearing camo gear as my new fashion statement? What’s the answer to this challenge?

The way I have it figured is this-I am now officially a senior citizen, as much as I hate to admit it. I doubt I will become a licensed gun handler. I further doubt that I will ever enjoy processing deer meat or fish-I’d rather have an aquarium! So I’ll just fry your fish, cook your venison, and tell you when I hear a funny noise from your car. What do you say, boys?
